Dr. Richard Roeder residing in Jerusalem, Israel, sought compensation for harm to profession due to his forced retirement as a city doctor (Stadtarzt) in Berlin by the Nazi regime. He also sought compensation for harm to liberty suffered, having been held in forced residence in Saint-Rambert-d'Albon, France, from February 1, 1941, to July 5, 1945. Following his death on February 25, 1953, his widow, Hedwig Roeder, continued the claim as his heir, together with their two daughters, Mirjam Shapira and Hilde Hirston. Hedwig Roeder was appointed the sole beneficiary and successfully obtained her late husband's pension back payments, a death benefit, and her own widow's pension. The compensation was granted under the German Federal Law for the Restitution of Public Service Personnel living abroad (BWGÖD). The case was handled by the United Restitution Organization offices in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, and Berlin, with involvement from the Jewish Agency for Palestine in Munich.
